Boy’s ghost haunts Kampala business tycoon

The Court of Appeal in Kampala on Thursday rejected an appeal by city former Uganda business tycoon Godfrey Kato-Kajubi, who was sentenced to life imprisonment by the High Court for ritual murder of 12-year-old boy who was called Joseph Kasirye.

Kato in July 2012… the High Court at Masaka sentenced him to imprisonment for the rest of his life following a retrial. The court that was presided over by Justice Moses Mukiibi had set Kato-Kajubi free without putting him on defence.

Kajubi had at first bribed the judicial system to walk for freedom. But the Inspector General of Police, Kale Kayihura challenged his court victory, saying that Kajubi had bribed the system. Kajubi was rearrested and retried.

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) appealed against his acquital, and court ordered for a re-trial where he was subsequently convicted and jailed for life. The relatives of Kasirye said after Kajubi’s court loss that the ghost of their slain boy was haunting him.
