Uganda budget: taxes increased

 

The presumptive tax threshold has been increased from 1% to 3% in order for the Uganda government to raise its revenue. Finance minister Miria Kiwanuka says this new measure is expected to generate 8 billion shillings. The same government has introduced another 15% tax on ‘winnings’ on sports and pool betting and designate gambling houses as agents to withhold the tax. The measure is expected to generate another 8 billion shillings. The government has also terminated exemption on interest income on agricultural loans. The measure is expected to generate 25.1 billion shillings. The government has further introduced capital gains tax on the sale of commercial property to generate over 52 billions. The terminated exemption on income derived from educational institutions expected to generate 15 billions.
