Blood Group O Negative on demand in Uganda

It seems facebook is teaching people across the world to learn to save life. Francis Kitonsa’s family (Ugandan) last week posted on Facebook that he is in International Hospital Kampala in intensive care unit and he was in urgent need of blood.

Francis just like a few people in the world belongs to a rare blood group called O negative. That is in every 100 people, you find only 2 or 3 people of this rare blood group.

But on reading about Kitonsa’s problem on face book, someone with blood group O negative rushed to Dr. Annet of the Uganda Blood Bank. The doctor quickly abandoned whatever she was doing when she heard that someone with blood group O negative was in the house.

His blood was taken straight to the lab. Francis has so far received 8 units of blood, but still needs more. The Uganda Blood Bank is still making calls across the world to save Francis’ life.
