President Yoweri Museveni has called on traditional leaders to sensitize their subjects on modern agro production to improve household incomes saying this is the only way to fight household poverty among their subjects.
The President who has been on a whirlwind tour of projects in Kamuli district and had initially commissioned a Shs 500million Presidents’ office building that will house the RDC, ISO, DISOs and other central government officials in Kamuli district was yesterday speaking at a mammoth rally held at the grounds of the palace of H.R.H Prince William Nadiope Gabula IV in Kamuli district.
The President who arrived in the wee hours of the evening at Budhumbula palace was taken on a guided tour of the Mausoleum of the late Nadiope Yosia, the Princes’ grandfather and his wife Nansikombi Nadiope, and Wilberforce Nadiope where he laid his wreath and paid his respects. He later toured the palace of the young prince Willian Nadiope Gabula currently under construction and funded by the government of Uganda before addressing the rally.
“Am happy to be here and to see my son back home, returning to his grandfathers and fathers home to continue where they left from and even started agriculture. If a prince can be involved in agriculture, he is a true Prince. It is important to sensitize your subjects to engage in modern agro production to fight poverty by leading by example,” he said.
Prince Gabula is engaged in massive commercial production of maize in the region.
The President who sought the Prince and his subjects permission to leave early for other government engagements delegated the Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga to represent him for the rest of the evening during which a message from the children of Kamuli in commemoration of the Day of the African child was delivered to the speaker. The Speaker later also launched the Busoga Education Performance Programme aimed at monitoring education performance in the region.
During his tour President Museveni highlighted the importance of enterprise selection in modern agro production to boost food production and wealth creation. He said the region is particularly endowed in the production of fruits that can be exploited alongside other enterprises such as poultry piggery, fish farming, diary production etc for commercial purposes.
