Uganda to establish National Health Insurance

Uganda is planning to establish a National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) according to Dr. Elioda Tumwesigye, the state minister for health in charge of general duties.

The ministry of finance is about to proceed to submit the bill that will establish the National Health Insurance Scheme to parliament for discussion. According to minister Elioda, all Ugandans in formal employment will be forced to make the mandatory contributions to National Health Insurance Corporation.

But many Ugandans are opposed to National Health Insurance Scheme because they are currently paying 10% to National Social Security Fund. Ugandans are currently spending beyond 10% of their monthly incomes on health services.
