The minister of Justice and constitutional Affairs Kahinda Otafire says that Uganda has no chance to rescue Ugandans sentenced to death in china over drug trafficking.
He was making a statement on alleged non – implementation of the transfer of convicted offenders ACt in which such Ugandans in china should have been used to be serving their sentence in Uganda.
Otafire said that government talked to china over the transfer of Ugandans but it opposed the plea saying they do not have such a law .
He said that in china whether you’re a foreigner or Chinese the law applied equally, adding that whoever sentenced to death is hanged.
He however said that, Ugandans who serving their sentence in Hong Kong who applied to serve their sentence in Uganda have a chance to come back .
Reports show that Twenty three Ugandans have been sentenced to death for smuggling drugs into China.
Information compiled by Uganda’s embassy in China shows that another 22 Ugandans are serving life imprisonment sentence in several jails .
