The Presidential Initiative on Science and Technology was started in 2010 to enhance the development of science and research in Uganda.
The science and technology initiative works through a number of bodies Uganda Industrial Research Institute (UIRI), and Uganda National Council of Science and Technology (UNCST).
Makerere University is in charge of operating this presidential initiative and technology. This project at Makerere University is under the College of Engineering, Design Art and Technology (CEDAT), and College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CAES).
The project is also run by the School of Food Technology, Nutrition and Bio-engineering (Makerere University) and the College of Veterinary Medicine, Animal Resources & Bio-security (CoVAB).
The presidential initiative supports Makerere University’s main priorities in the area of research and innovation as defined in light of the scientific challenges and the role of universities as change agents in the economic development of the country.
