We have been told that United Kingdom plans to cancel sham weddings between its citizens and Africans including Ugandans.
Uganda is one of the 13 African Countries that UK has listed to be watched for immigration shams of this kind. A news report conducted by the House of Lords, the Second Chamber of UK’s parliament titled “the work of the immigration directorates” produced an article in the House, titled “Sham marriage ‘industry’ increases at an alarming rate.” The report recommends that if the Registrar of marriages is confident the wedding is a sham, and then he or she should cancel the wedding.
The UK government has told its police officers to identify potential shams and provide full, accurate and timely information to the Registrars and advise them the action to taken. After the House of Lords ratifies the report, the sham Ugandan marriages in UK will be canceled immediately. The poverty in underdeveloped countries like Uganda force many nationals to use fake weddings to immigrate to developed countries.
