Ministry of Health in conjunction with Carter center an international NGO says by 2020 the regions which affected by river blindness will be declared free from this illness.
The Director General Ministry of Health Ruth Achen says River blindness has taken toll in the Bunyoro region and Northern Uganda but government took time to spray these place to eliminate this sickness she is optimistic that it will be no more because of government vigilance to get rid of this sickness she adds that the number of patients down strategically
Acen Ruth has been speaking during the opening of the 7th session of river blindness elimination expert’s advisory committee at Sheraton hotel, Kampala.
She says the disease is caused mainly by total poverty and the absence of safe water from these places where people use dirty water for bathing were people develops rough skin.
River blindness is a fly-borne parasitic infection that affects the poorest communities who live “where the road ends”. It causes terrible itching, skin changes, and blindness that can devastate communities.
