Following a meeting with president Yoweri Museveni Makerere university administration have come out to explain on the contentious 10% tuition fees increment which had of late caused chaotic scenes in the university .
The vice chancellor has told us that the 10% remains but the president committed himself that government will pay for all the students the 10% increment this academic year and after that new payment procedures shall be discussed.
He has explained that those who had already paid the 10% shall pay less next semester.
Dumba has said that this will not affect their projected budget adding that the president committed himself that Gov’t will effective next academic year take full responsibility to pay all the public university salaries.
In his opinion, Makerere university chancellor Prof Mondo kagonyera who has for long been critical of students who have been protesting the 10% tuition has changed position and now says such increments bother the poor families.
