Government has finished all the process to procure 2828 acres of land
to resettle people leaving in the risk of landslides in the areas of
Bugishu.
This was confirmed by the minister of disaster preparedness Hilary
Onek while addressing a press conference in Kampala today.
Minister Onek said that the 2828 acres of land which government has
procured is worth 8bshs adding that each beneficiary will receive
2.5acres.
He says that the office of the prime minister will commence the
resettlement process immediately for 1150 vulnerable households from
the upper Mt Elgon.
Onek further said that government has decided to resettle these people
after the department of meteorology predicted heavy rains with the
possible re-occurrence of landslides in the Elgon region.
Government solicitor general Francis Atoke cleared Ms Simu Oil Ltd,Ms
Godfrey Manana and Patrick Watika to provide land to government to
resettle these people after winning the bidding process.
Relatedly the state minister for disaster Musa Ecweru has revealed
that government is in process of buying land to resettle disaster
victims with the plan to be carried out annually.
