Ntoroko district census enumerators have been intercepted in Kabarole district as they kicked off their 5th day of business.
The enumerators 10 in number were intercepted by locals from Nyamisingiri parish in Kicwamba Sub County.
The parish is located along the Kabarole, Ntoroko boarder and has since 2008 been causing tension between the two districts.
Ntoroko district alleges that the said parish is under Nombe Sub County whereas according to the Kabarole district map Nyamisingiri is in Kabarole district under Kincwamba Sub County.
Chris Makune a resident of Nyamisingiri said that they had been cautioned by their district leaders not to be counted by enumerators from Ntoroko district.
Some of the enumerators who insisted on counting were saved by police from angry residents who wanted to assault and confiscate their kits.
Sam Mugume, the Kabarole District Census Coordinator, said that enumerators in charge of Nyamisingiri parish had been registered under Kichwamba Sub County adding that he was surprised how the enumerators from Ntoroko ended up in Kabarole.
One of the ten enumerators who preferred anonymity told the New Vision that they were deployed to the said parish by the district census coordinator.
When contacted for a comment the vice chairperson for Ntoroko district Justus Musoke said that the ministry of local government last year made a formal communication indicating that Nyamisingiri parish was under Ntoroko district which was canceled months later.
The Kabarole district chairperson Richard Rwabuhinga told the New Vision that in the previous elections, Nyamisingiri parish was counted under Kabarole district and that since then no new demarcations have been made.
Rwabuhinga has expressed fears that the boarder tensions could be based on tribal grounds.
