minister maria kiwanuka denies mismanagement of NSSF

Kiwanuka has instituted anew Audit probe into the alleged NSSF mismanagement barely a month when parliament also formed a select committee to investigate the same matter .
This was disclosed by the minister of finance Maria Kiwanuka Nabasirye while appearing before the NSSF probe chaired by the member of parliament for Kalungu East Vincent Sempijja.
Mrs .Kiwanuka told the committee that her ministry directed the Auditor General to carry out independent evaluation of how NSSF purchased shares in UMEME , alleged mismanagement of the workers fund and the issues related to nepotism during recruitment of workers .
She said that this audit by the Auditor general will thoroughly dig out all the mess in the workers fund and show whether there people recruited due to nepotism as reported
She also said that the ministry is waiting for the bank of Uganda to carry out due diligence (vetting) NSSF financial capacity and later allow the appointment on new bosses of NSSF and get rid of the current acting managers who been in acting capacity for eight months now.
However mps who included Anna maria Nankabirwa , Vincent Sempijja Alex Ruhunda and Teopista Sentongo question the ministry when Bank of Uganda became a vetting institution of NSSF issues when the fund does not operate as a financial institution according to law, kiwanuka said that Bank of Uganda has to come in since the fund has got 4.3 trillion shillings and engages in investments worldwide .
She revealed they want to recruit NSSF managers who have international standards as those managers in Citi bank , centenary bank , stanbic bank and standard chartered bank so as they have capacity of managing huge amount of money in the workers fund.
She further clarified that it was a good business for NSSF to procure shares in UMEME on business perspective since Umeme is listed on stock exchange but however said that such a decision want an independent evaluation for appraisal to invest in workers funds .

Minister kiawanuka also furies in the committee over claims that she engaged in the approving the NSSF board chairman Ivan Kyayonka basing on the business relationship kyayonka has with her husband.
She said that Ivan kyayonka has never been a business partner with her husband as alleged and he was approved by the former secretary to treasury Chris kasami for the job.
