The ministry of gender is to close down orphanage homes without required qualification to take care of children in the country in two weeks time.
The communication was made by the minister of Gender and social issues Mary Karooro Okurut during the launch of the Africhild Centre in Makerere University.
Karooro says as a ministry they have discovered that there are people that take on children and use them for other sexual harassment and homosexuality in orphanage homes, while others have poor sanitation because they don’t have toilet, not even food and poor accommodation.
She however refused to reveal these homes to avoid alerting them but what has been hindering government from implementing this is the absence of where they will be shifted after but this has been found thou she didn’t reveal where.
Karooro says the ministry made an announcement to have orphanage homes registered but only 83 turned up for the exercise country wide.
About the center, Karooro says it’s to help have evidence on African children’s issue like child abuse, violence and many others based on researched data to avail a remarkable solution based on facts.
