The state minister for public service, Hon. Sezi Mbaguta is cautioning teachers and head teachers to fight so hard to scale down the levels of absenteeism in schools if learners are to grasp what they are being taught as well as improving on their performance.
Speaking at a function where 21 poor performing primary schools were donated text books by Letshago in Kampala today, Mbaguta reminded the teachers that many learners are out of school and even not with their parents which puts their lives and future at risk.
As she challenged teachers to use the donated books well she also encourages Ugandans to develop a habit of reading saying this is the only way they will get more knowledge.
According to the David Okoderi (Olongat Primary School-Kumi) Rogers Muhumuza (Kabwanswa primary school- Lyantonde) among other head teachers, they raised they attribute the continued poor performance in their schools to lack of text books, bigger numbers of learners, out dated text books among other but with the acquisition of these new modern text books they hope to start registering improved performance.
And the CEO, Letshego-Uganda, Geofrey Kitakule, reveals that ever since they started giving out text books to poor performing schools, performance in those schools has increased and hence the growing motivation to continue with the programme
