Agricultural experts and farmers under their organization Uganda forum for agriculture advisory services (UFAAS) are asking govt to have the agriculture extension workers back in service to help farmers in technical aspects of the activity which currently is lacking and putting their work at risks.
Govt fazed out agriculture extension workers from local levels as it mounted a series of reforms in the NAADS programmee replacing them with UPDF to give out agriculture inputs which the experts and farmers say will not work but instead fail the whole programmee since the forces are have baked in agriculture issues.
Speaking at the two days meeting where they are to develop plans to present to govt to be included in the reforms, the vice chairperson UFAAS, Augustine Mwendya among other experts vehemently state that the sector is at crossroads and if not quickly saved it will seize to be the back bone of this nation.
However, Patrick Kirya a farmer from Bugiri district says that they are currently suffering due to lack of sufficient knowledge on how to go about with planting and farming since extension workers were fazed out of the system
