Parliament has resolved to form a select committee to investigate the construction of the standard gauge railway.
Twomonths ago a motion was tabled before parliament protesting the procurement ofthe construction of a railway worth 8.5 billion dollarsapproximately 22 trillion shillings which MPs sayit’s too costly and unacceptable.
Earlier the Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda told parliament that cabinet has discussed the matter and due to make a report this Thursday however MPs said that they could not wait any longer since it’s a matter of urgency.
Mps including Theodore Sekikuubo, Abdul Katuntu, NandalaMafabi, fox odoi among others say that if the project is allowed to go on in its current form this will commit Ugandan tax payers to a heavy burden in the repayment of the loan. The speaker of parliament Rebecca Kadaga will give guidance to the committee in the cause of the week.
