The new speaker of the East African Legislative Assembly Dan Fred Kidega has invited her predecessor Margaret Nantongo Zziwa to work together towards uplifting the EALA to a new paradym.
Kidega says that Zziwa is such a good legislator who should put the past behind her and support the common cause of moving EALA to greater heights under his leadership.
He further expalined that he’s got several tasks ahead of him as the speaker including repairing the tainted image of the Assembly and deepening the East African Community integration among the peoples of East Africa.
Kidega said all this while in a meeting with the speaker of parliament Rebecca Kadaga at parliament.
On the other hand Kidega has revealed that the Asembly will not be sitting in Uganda this month as it was expected due to financial constraints which emanated from the various extra-ordinary sittings that were meant to resolve issues of speakership.
He says the session will be held in Arusha starting 17th January, 2015, with over four Bills including the East African Corporative Societies Bill, East African Negotiations Bill, East African Integration Education Bill, over six Reports and numerous questions to the council of ministers still pending, noting that these should be concluded in the remaining short period.
Meanwhile the speaker Rebecca Kadaga has pledged to support Kidega’s leadership, further advising them to identify the lacunas within the EAC Treaty which have become the cause of mess in EALA.
