Teachers through the Uganda teachers SACCO union limited have resolved to move in full blast to start up their own bank, petition the president of Uganda over the pledged teachers grant, halt all applications from teachers SACCOs to the microfinance support centre until the current funds crisis is ironed out among other resolutions that have been reached on in today’s urgent meeting attended by teachers’ SACCOS heads from across the country.
The meeting chaired by the chairman of the national teachers SACCO, Stephen Nabenda strongly asks all teachers not to accept money forced on to them by the educ ministry and the finance centre.
Speaking to the delegation, Nabenda reminded teachers to be more resolute and united as they demand for clear channels to access the UGX.25Bn which was given to them by the president
However, the general secretary UNATU, James Tweheyo raised a serious concern of them working out modalities to start up a bank just like it is in TZ, Kenya and South Africa though he cites jinks that may fall as they start on the road to setting up a bank
