Medical workers under their umbrella body, Uganda medical workers union have launched a massive campaign geared at saving the lives of expectant mothers and the live of new borns by reminding government to increase their salaries within 90 days before they resort to worse steps.
Addressing a joint press conference today at their offices in Kampala, the general secretary of the union, Agrey Sanya the newly declared struggle targeted at reducing maternal and child death will be rolled out across the country but as they push for other demands that are affecting them at the moment noting that the lowest pay should be at around UGX.2.5M.
The medics also want govt to fully equip all health centers across the country to provide a better working condition for them as they extend services to locals.
However, the workers representative in parliament, Dr. Sam Lyomoki reveals that over 40% of Ugandan pregnant women give birth to un qualified personnel which contributes to these death but further stresses that this is because the medics are poorly paid which has seen a hCue.Lyomoki.Eng&Lug.
Statistics show that Ugandan looses 16 mothers while giving birth and over 105 neonates while giving birth daily.
