Speaker Kadaga condemns intellectual extremism

The Speaker of Parliament has urged legislatures in the Muslim world to address terrorism and intellectual extremism that have resulted into violence in a cross section of member states.

Addressing the 10th session of the Parliamentary Union of Islamic countries PUIC in Istanbul Turkey January 24, Rt.Hon.Rebecca Kadaga decried atrocities committed on children and other innocent civilians in countries hit by conflict.
“As Uganda delegation to 10th PUIC we condemn atrocities committed on innocent civilians by the Boko Haram militants in West Africa. Violence against women and children is gross human rights abuse. I call on countries engulfed by conflict to address the plight of the young who have been deprived of their education and girls turned into sex slaves,” she told delegates.

Speaker Kadaga who expressed support for an anti terror charter proposed by the United Arab Emirates delegation appealed to Organisation of Islamic Cooperation OIC States to condemn all acts of terrorism and intellectual extremism across the globe.

The Speaker of the parliament of Afghanistan appealed to OIC States to help end the conflict that has for many years denied the people of Afghanistan access to mineral resources that could help the country exploit its economic potentials.

Delegates at the Conference resolved to support calls for peaceful coexistence among all states and to enhance cooperation on matters of economic development. They supported calls for the establishment of global peace, justice, stability and security.

The conference also tasked the Uganda delegation to play its part in helping Kenya and Tanzania join the OIC inter parliamentary union.

Uganda has been a member of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation since 1974.
