The Rev. Canon Stephen Namanya has been elected the 2nd Bishop of North Ankole Diocese. He will be consecrated and enthroned as Bishop on 2nd August 2015 at Emmanuel Cathedral, Rushere.
Canon Namanya accepted Christ as his personal Lord and Saviour and was born again on 26th March 1980 and has been serving as Archdeacon of Kashwa Archdeaconry as well as Chairperson of the House of Clergy for North Ankole Diocese.
He has also served as an Archdeacon in Kinoni Archdeaconry, Diocesan Secretary of North Ankole Diocese, and a member of the Provincial Assembly from North Ankole Diocese. Canon Namanya was commissioned as a Lay Reader in 1982, ordained a deacon in 1987, and ordained a priest in 1988.
Canon Namanya studied at Uganda Christian University, receiving first a Diploma in Theology in 1996, then a Bachelor of Divinity (Hons) in 2006, and a Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership and Management in 2009.
Canon Namanya is married to Lydia Twikiriize Namanya and they have seven children.
His election was made by the House of Bishops of the Church of Uganda sitting at Kapchorwa Primary Teacher’s College, Diocese of Sebei.
He will succeed the Rt. Rev. John Muhanguzi who has served as the 1st Diocesan Bishop since 2003.
