While appearing before the Budget Committee of Parliament the Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Education who is also the Woman Member of Parliament for Lamwo District Sarah Lanyero revealed that the Uganda National Examination Body was facing a big funding gap this year.
Lanyero said that the national examination body needs 33.7 billion shillings as examination fees for Primary Leaving Examinations and the Uganda Certificate of Education but government availed only 27 billion shillings causing a shortfall of 6.8 billion shillings.
She said the shortfall in funding is likely to affect the body’s mandate of effectively supervising and administering examinations at the said levels of education.
However, the Members of Parliament on the Budget Committee said UNEB should first account and explain how it spends the exams fee charged from private students in primary and secondary schools if the parliament is to address its concern of the alleged shortfall in funding.
