The budget committee of parliament chaired by Ntenjeru North Member of Parliament, Amos Lugolobi, has recommended that Government provides 57.8 billion shillings to the Ministry of Gender in the coming fiscal year, 2015/2016, to enable the establishment of the Kiswahili council.
The 10th council of ministers of the East African Community made a directive that all member countries should establish a national Kiswahili council under the ministries of culture in order to promote trade and labour movement within the region. The committee noted that the establishment of the Kiswahili Council will enhance Uganda’s ability to get employment in the region as well as ease their ability to do business.
Kiswahili is highly advocated for by Members of Parliament because they believe it will help Uganda move at the same level with other countries in East Africa. Speaking Kiswahili will open up avenues for economic opportunities and doing business.
