President Yoweri Museveni has strongly urged medical personnel in the country to sensitize expectant mothers on attending ante- natal clinics and delivering from hospitals in order to minimize cases of child and maternal deaths. ‘’Please medical workers, sensitize mothers to attend ante-natal clinics and also deliver their babies in hospitals not at home,” he counselled.
The President was addressing wanainchi at Rwebishekye Parish in Rwanyamahembe Sub-County in Kashaari County, Mbarara district, who turned up to witness the commissioning of the 43-bed Bwizibwera Health Centre 4 Hospital. President Museveni was received at the hospital by State Minister for Health (General), Dr. Chris Baryomusi and the Medical Superintendent, Dr. Peter Ssebutinde, among others.
The President, who called on everybody to use mosquito nets to avoid getting malaria, also assured mothers of special care in Bwizibwera Health Centre 4, as the facility will soon be provided with a scanner and an ambulance. “We are going to provide the hospital with a scanner to enable mothers know how healthy their unborn babies are and to also help mothers know whether they will be operated upon or not,” he said.
President Museveni later commissioned Bukiro Health Centre 3 hospital in Bukiro Sub-County and electricity power line that will serve the area. Addressing a rally at Nyanja village in Bukiro Sub-County, Mr. Museveni who was glad to be in the area for the first time, reiterated his call to all people in Kashaari County to embrace modern commercial farming that will certainly get them out of poverty.
He advised leaders at all levels in Bukiro Sub-County and Mbarara district in general to work out a plan for the people in the area as their family land holdings are very minimal. “I was told that most homes have only one acre. Sit down with the leaders as well as the Agricultural Officer for Mbarara and work out a plan on how to profitably use that one acre,” he advised. Mr. Museveni, however, encouraged those with land to adopt the 4-acre model and engage in intensive farming like coffee growing on one acre, food crops on another, fruits, pasture and at the back yard have dairy cattle and poultry for eggs, among other enterprises. He cautioned to take note that all these must be done with proper calculation.
