Youth under Civil Society Organizations have asked parliament to prevail over government to consider increasing the Budget of the Agricultural sector claiming that the sector employs most of the youth. Addressing a news conference at the National Theatre in Kampala the youth from Civil Society Organizations like Civil Society Budget Advocacy Group (CSBAG) said that Agrictural sector must be funded fully so as the youth are enabled to fight poverty.
The group led by Richard Mugisha and Lydia Kobusinge said that the underfunding of the Agricultural sector has affected the youth and their parents who are farmers; and those would have helped the youth to further their life to better living standards. They said that government has invested in many sectors and services for a long time while neglecting Agriculture but no economic transformation has been felt in improving the youth livelihood as could have been with investing in this sector.
They demanded for availability of credit facilities to small holder farmers and queried over the government pledge for the establishment of the farmers’ bank which was promised last financial year to give farmers credit facility at low interest rate.
