Some Members of Parliament, religious leaders and workers had mixed reactions on the delivered budget for the financial year 2015/16 worth 24.6 trillion shillings. The MP for Lwemiyaga County Theodore Sekikubo said that the budget read by Finance Minister, Matia Kasaija, showed imbalances for some sectors and neglected investment in income generating activities for the poor people.
The MP for Kawempe North Latif Sebagala said that budget could be good but the money should be guarded from corrupt officials so as the budget is realized. Workers’ MP Arinaitwe and Woman MP for Lwengo district Gatrude Nakabira said that the budget will affect workers because it is focusing more on infrastructure although 3 billion shillings was allocated for wage bill. The opposition chief whip Cecilia Ogwal said that this budget is not pro poor people since it exposes them to paying a heavy external debt .
The former Bishop of Mukono diocese Eriya Paul Luzinda said that the budget did not address the issue of job creation for the unemployed. The Member of Parliament for Nakifuma county said that the budget should have reduced electricity tariff.
Patrick Nakabale, the Youth MP for Central region said that the budget will help the youth to engage more in generating income enterprise projects while the chairperson of National Organisation of Trade Unions (NOTU) Mr Wilson Usher Owere said that he is happy with the budget because it captured teachers’ money.
