Change of guard at Eskom (U) Ltd

The Prime Minister Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda has hailed the outgoing Eskom (U) Limited Managing Director Ms. Nokwanda Mngeni, for her dedicated work that has contributed to improved power generation in Uganda. He pledged Government’s total support to the new Managing Director Ms. Thozama Gangi. The Prime Minister met the team from Eskom (U) Limited, who were accompanied by the South African High Commissioner Prof. Maj. Gen. (rtd) Lekoa Solly Mollo, at his office in Kampala.

Dr. Rugunda noted that Uganda and South Africa have a common history in the struggle for good governance. ‘The two countries enjoy good relations which should be consolidated for the betterment of their people’ he said.

On his part, the South African High Commissioner thanked Government for providing a conducive investment climate that has facilitated development in the country. He assured the Premier that Eskom (U) Ltd will continue playing its core mandate of improving power generation in Uganda.

The outgoing Eskom (U) Ltd Managing Director Ms. Nokwanda who has been in Uganda for the last twelve years has been posted back to Eskom headquarters in South Africa.  Meanwhile the incoming Managing Director Ms. Thozama Gangi has been working with Eskom in South Africa for the last fourteen years.

Eskom (U) Ltd was incorporated on 22nd November 2002 and commenced operations on 1st April 2003. The company operates and maintains the Nalubaale and Kiira power stations in Jinja, to provide reliable and sustained hydro power for national development.
