In Kamuli District, the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga, has commissioned a school construction project worth Shs 2 billion with a call for support and responsibility towards education so as to achieve Sustainable Development Goals.
Commissioning the project with a ground breaking at Bwiiza, Kisaikye, Kakanu and Kadungu primary schools in Namasagali sub-county Kamuli District, Kadaga challenged communities, leaders and parents to supplement government efforts and development initiatives as well as cautioning against shoddy work insisting on efficient, timely and quality works.
“We should focus on helping children achieve education for all but unfortunately I was even reported to the Inspector General of Government for asking for these funds to boost education of our children,” she said.
Kadaga urged the Basoga to prioritise and invest in the education of their children instead of abdicating their duties to government through its free universal education programme. She explained that promoting education and capacity building for teachers are important issues to her.
The Ministry of Education Construction Unit Officer, Eng. Paul Mubiru cautioned contractors against doing sub-standard work adding that given the magnitude of the project they would be monitored closely. He also disclosed that the project benefiting 28 schools in Kamuli was requested for by the Speaker of Parliament under her Busoga Education Enhancement Initiative and is the biggest project for a single district.
