The NRM party chairman Yoweri Museveni has appointed National and Regional arbitration and reconciliation teams to receive and address complaints arising from the recently concluded NRM party primaries. Without giving details of the committee, the NRM party Secretary General Justine Kasule Lumumba says that the committees are comprised of the eminent persons who are to mediate between different parties.
The party spokesperson Ofwono Opondo adds that people like Hajji Moses Kigongo have already embarked on efforts of persuading party members who lost in the party’s elections to accept defeat and plan for the way forward without necessarily leaving the party. Opondo adds that the committees will mainly focus on resolving administrative and political issues than legal issues that could be of concern between different political rivals. He also refuted claims that the NRM party is weakening based on reports that a total of 15 cabinet ministers losing their parliamentary positions. Ofwono said that instead the situation is improving since in the 2005 party primaries, a total of 34 cabinet ministers lost their parliamentary seats while in 2010 the number was reduced to 27.
