Following the signing of the universal declaration on social rights observation, the government of Uganda was obliged to start the implementation of these social and economic rights as a way of improving the lives of Ugandans with subject to period reviews to check on the progress by the members states. Tomorrow Uganda will be holding a multi stakeholders meeting on the status of implementation of these rights which include universal right to accessing health, education, water, justice, engage in economic activities among others with the meeting to be graced by CSOs, government agencies and departments and development partners.
The universal period review was established when the human rights council was created on 15th March 2006 by the UN general assembly in the resolution 60/251 which mandates the council to undetake a universal period review based on the objectives and reliable information of the fulfillment by each state of its human rights obligations and commitments.
