Government has set to flag off the roll out of the new vaccine against cervical cancer into the national routine immunization schedule throughout the country today. The Minister for Health Dr. Elioda Tumwesigye says that the flagging off function will be at Bwera Senior Secondary School play ground in Kasese district.
It is estimated that cervical cancer accounts for 80% of all female cancers and 40% of all cancers in Kampala’s cancer registry. Tumwesigye adds that the vaccination will target over 850,000 girls aged 10years both in and out of school that is to cost about 5.328m USD.
However, he appeals to parents and school authorities to take these girls to the nearest health facility or outreach immunization site
