Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) presidential candidate Dr. Kizza Besigye says the ongoing land grabbing across the country is a deliberate move by government to, among other things, leave Ugandans more powerless.
Addressing different rallies in Baale, Kitimbwa, Busana, Bukamba, Nazigo, Kangulumira sub counties and Kayunga town council in Kayunga district today, Dr. Besigye said the continued land grabbing is across the country apart from Kigezi sub region because there is no land to be grabbed. Besigye has asked the people of Kayunga and other parts of the country to join him in demanding for a commission of inquiry into the stolen land, review of what he calls weak land laws and that caveat should be put on all titled land.
Besigye says until there has been pressure for the above demands, government, its officials and some clan leaders in connivance with government will not relent on their move to steal land from the already poor Ugandans whom the current government wants to make poorer. Besigye says land grabbing in Kayunga district is at the highest peak though other areas like Acholi, Teso, Bukedi, Lango, Buganda and Bunyoro have of late started experiencing high levels of land theft.
