The Prime Minister Dr Ruhakana Rugunda has on behalf of President Yoweri Museveni commissioned two dormitory blocks at Kabukunge primary teachers’ college (PTC) in Kalungu District. President Museveni in his speech read by the Premier said education was a fundamental building block for human development and poverty reduction.
Kabukunge is a Muslim founded PTC established in 1979. The two dormitory blocks were constructed by government at a cost of 855 million shillings. President Museveni said a lot of effort has been invested in teacher recruitment, training and retraining of primary school teachers and head teachers as a way of addressing the quality demands in the education sector. The President said teachers have a key role to play if quality education is to be achieved
“The teacher has a key role of curriculum implementer, learning facilitator and learner evaluator, in providing quality education,”
Mr Museveni said knowledge investment was rapidly replacing capital investment in all spheres of life adding that it was evident that world over, all successful men and women attained a certain level of education. He said the NRM government had offered free education to all the citizens at primary level by introducing Universal Primary Education (UPE) to achieve its quality education targets and also the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The Principal of the College, Hajjat Aidah Nambusi Kibedi thanked Government for also constructing two classroom blocks, library and science laboratory. She said the PTC had a challenge of accommodation for the tutors and requested government to consider building tutors houses at the college in addition to procuring transport for the college.
The Kalungu District Chairman, Emmanuel Musoke said the District was working hard to ensure that all government programmes are implemented.
