The female youth who are also school going students have rejected the pledge by president Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to provide free sanitary towels to girls in universal education schools. This as the president in his campaigns for 2016 pledges promised to provide sanitary pads to girls in universal education schools monthly.
The female youth questioned why the president is providing the pads now yet the problem has been around for decades. The youth say that instead of sanitary pads for girls, the president should make interventions and have a factory making pads so as are accessed by girls at cheap price instead of the current price of 3500 shillings per packet. They say that if the president’s government provides more jobs to the youth and Ugandans they will have money to buy the pads themselves.
Some of the female youth supported the president on sanitary pads and say this is a long overdue .
Reports in Uganda indicate that lack of sanitary pads among girls in schools highly contribute to school dropouts.
