The Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga has blamed Parliament which she chairs for passing three million nomination fees into law which she says blocked many leaders from competing for elective offices.
During the plenary session Kadaga who said she was not part of those who passed the decision said the three million was exorbitant and prohibitive and it does not reflect democracy. Kadaga noted that many Ugandans failed to raise the three million shillings and blamed the house for making it impossible to other Ugandans to access public offices.
The three million was later challenged in the courts of law; however Justice Remmy Kasule in his ruling said that granting an interim injunction against the raise in nomination fees would stop the entire electoral process for President and Parliamentary elections.
