Democratic party candidates in Mukono district have protested the police actions of arresting their supporters at political rallies. Addressing a joint press conference at the residence of the member of parliament for Mukono municipality Betty Nambooze said that police, Mukono RDC David Matovu and Brigadier Nalyeyiso are causing the arrest of their supporters without any crime committed.
The Democratic party candidates claim that their supporters were ambushed, shot at, beaten and arrested while going home after a rally held in Seeta. The member of parliament for Mukono municipality Betty Nambooze Bakireke said that police arrested eight of their supporters and these are still in the police custody.
Nambooze, the DP mayoral candidate for Mukono municipality George Kagimu, Mukono central division candidate Bogere Nsensebuse and DP candidate for L.3 chairperson Goma subcounty Erisa Mukasa Nkoyoyo criticized the Electoral commission presiding officer in the district for failure of being in charge of campaigns in this district and leaving its powers to the police and RDC to cause violence against innocent civilians.
