Eastern Region Youth are demanding for a speedy election of the youth Member of Parliament for their region despite pending court cases frustrating this election. Angry youth leaders from different districts of Eastern region told journalists in Kampala that they want the electoral commission to hold the Eastern youth election as soon as possible so that they are at equal footing with other regions which have finished voting their youth members of parliament.
The youth said that the delay to vote Eastern youth MP elections will cause another delay of the National Female youth Member of Parliament vote. The youth chairman Bukedea district Ayush David said the electoral commission should sort itself out with one Mafabi Isima whose name is missing on the national voters register and is delaying the process through a court petition.
The Youth chairman Jinja district said that as youth they will mobilize youth from the eastern to stage a protest against the delay to hold the youth parliamentary representative for their region. The Tororo youth woman leader Josephine Akech said that if the electoral commission fails to sort out this issue will storm its office in Kampala demanding election of their representative.
Four youth from Eastern region are interested in contesting for the parliamentary seat for Easter region and these include Dorothy Okware on NRM ticket, Isima Mafabi, Masitula Namatovu and Abubaker Matanda. On Monday this week youth MP elections were conducted in central region and NRM candidate Kityo Babirye won, in western region Mwine Mpaka Rwamirama, son to State Minister for agriculture Lt. Col. Bright Rwamirama and Oscar Omony Otema is now the new youth MP Northern Uganda
