DENIVA Uganda, a local NGO has added its voice to the already raised voices calling for a special independent audit into the results of the February 18th presidential polls outcome to give the country a very clear picture of what truly transpired during the whole exercise. DENIVA Uganda, Rubben Bawuta reveals that the whole process was not free and fair attributing the mess of the process to the fact that the then government deliberately refused to amend the electoral laws so as to enable the players have a level playing fields and thus the mess that was witnessed on the 18th February 2016.
DENIVA who were among the observers of the exercise, sighted intimidation of voters, media, shut down of social media platforms, voter bribery, crime preventers hijacking the duties of the presiding officers in some areas, chaos, late start to the voting among many others. However, they have also petitioned all the parties and independent
candidates that participated in the whole exercise at presidential level calling for peace and use of legal means to challenge the process that they refer to as being a sham.
They fast delivered the petition to the NRM where they were welcomed warmly by the assistant political person Charles Egwawu and then Kasangati to the FDC flag bearers residence where police fast made a call to allow them access the home but also bared journalists from making their way to Besigye’s home.
