Makerere University has handed over to government the Omaswa report following an investigation intended to resolve the long standing stand-off at ivory tower between staff, management and students.
This probe committee led by Prof Francis Omaswa was set up in 2011 following a series of strikes by both students and staff.
The report recommends urgent restructuring of staff and promotions as well as tallying of salaries.
The report further calls for increased government funding not only to Makerere University but to all public universities.
While handing over the report this morning, Prof Omaswa said a systematic absorption of donor funds and foreign aided projects within Makerere is also crucial.
He noted that Makerere is still highly ranked and respected university in the world and it’s possible to reclaim that honor if appropriate measures are taken.
