The Ministry of Works and Transport has issued a statement calling on the public to stay calm until a formal communication is made regarding the revised fees for driving permits. The statement comes after motorists have caused a commotion at Face Technologies offices hoping to have their permits renewed before these changes take effect.
During the budget speech the Finance Minister Matia Kasaija announced that the new taxes on driving permits would be hiked effective July 1. Alex Okello the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Works and Transport Alex Okello told journalists that the Ministry hasn’t received any formal communication from the Ministry of Finance gazeting the new permit fees.
Currently, someone seeking to acquire a new driving permit is required to pay 56,000 shillings per year.
