Another MP from Dokolo North County, Paul Amoru Omiat, has lost his seat in parliament over contravention of electoral laws. Lira magistrate’s court nullified the elections on grounds that the electoral commission declared votes from 8 polling stations with declaration forms not signed by the presiding officers that significantly affected the outcome of the poll.
Amoru’s victory was challenged by his main opponent, John Baptist Okello-Okello who petitioned the court accusing the legislator of failing to comply with the parliamentary electoral laws, and bribing voters during last February’s elections. The seat was declared vacant and the electoral commission has been directed to conduct fresh elections.
This is the 12th MP from the NRM ruling party to lose his seat.
