The Parliamentary Committee on Government Assurances and Implementation has vowed to withdrawal all pending pledges made by members of the executive over the years but have failed to fulfill them.
Hussein Kaps Fungaroo, newly appointed Committee Chairperson says this time round, it will not be business as usual, adding that leaders’ right from President Museveni, ministers must be ready to explain to the public their failure to implement pending pledges and assurances worth over 1.8 trillion Uganda shillings.
Speaking on Tuesday August 2, 2016,while chairing the committee’s first meeting at Parliament, Fungaroo flanked by other members stressed that his team will endeavor to find out why there has been a delay and total failure to have the pledges fulfilled which has undermined the social service delivery.
Fungaroo says that in circumstances where members of the executive arm cannot give proper and substantive explanation, they will be forced to withdraw the assurances and pledges made, a move he says will expose them as deceitful leaders.
The Committee’s Vice chairperson, Latiff Ssebagala says that the committee will go beyond monitoring, implementation but also do evaluation of the impact of the huge loans acquired by government and the projects have been executed.
Giving an example of Wandegaya Market Ssebagala explained that some of the expensive projects under taken by government at exorbitant costs have not positively changed the lives of Ugandans.
Other committee members who are set for induction this Thursday at Kabira Country Club noted that it was high time that leaders stopped duping Ugandans by giving what they termed as ‘empty promises’.
