Member of Parliament for Kumi Municipality Aagon Silas has reported of a food shortage in Teso sub region and asks government to quickly intervene by establishing a special contingency fund which he said will facilitate emergency relief during famine outbreaks.
The law maker notes that unlike other regions, Teso suffers from drought for four months every year making it easily subjected to famine outbreak.
Aagon further says that lack of water for production is also a threat to lives of people since the region entirely depends on agriculture for both food and income.
The MPs appeal comes following a warning by the state minister of relief, disaster preparedness and refugees Musa Ecweru on long dry spells between September and March next year.
