Former Uganda Broadcasting Corporations managing director, Paul Kihiika was last week arrested and temporarily detained by Parliament’s police directorate for failure to explain how he spent over 50 million shillings to purchase movies.
Kihika was appearing before Parliament’s Committee on Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises along with current MD Winston Agaba and acting Board of Directors Chairperson, Simon Kaheru to answer queries raised in the 2014-2015 auditors general’s report.
The committee discovered that Kihiika during the time he served at the national broadcaster bought 10 movies meant to air on the television and that this never happened since the movies were in Chinese language.
The Committee Chaired by its deputy, Anita Among the Bukedea Woman representative has also learnt that the broadcasting corporation never remitted over 500 million shillings collected from staff as National Social Security Fund’s contributions.
Kihiika was temporarily detained and only released after recording a statement with the CID unit and police.
