The Education and Sports Committee of Parliament has grilled the National Council of Sports over the poor performance of the team that represented Uganda in the just concluded Rio Olympics in Brazil.
The National Council of Sports team headed by its General Secretary, Bulamagi Nicholas had appeared before this committee for an interface.
Uganda sent a team of 20 participants in three sports disciplines that included Athletics, Boxing and Swimming but none of them fetched a medal for the country.
The MPs demanded to know the level of preparation and training the participants had been offered before they set off because this could have been a big obstacle to their performance.
The Chairperson of the Committee who is also the Woman representative for Mbale district, Connie Galiwango Nakayenze questioned the purpose, relevance of the 21 delegates/diplomats headed by minister Charles Bakabulindi who went along with the participants who could not offer proper monitoring or help to participants where need be.
Meanwhile, the Secretary General of the Council, Bulamagi Nicholas accepted the faults and says they are now to carry out research from other Successful African countries in sports to see how Uganda can improve in performance.
