Government is to gazette urban streets for the operation of betting and lottery companies as members of Parliament want the gambling stake hiked up.
This was revealed by the Director Lottery Licensing Authority, Johnson Kyeyune while briefing members of Parliament on the Public Accounts Committee on the status and performance of the lottery and betting industry.
Kyeyune says that currently the country has over 40 registered gambling companies.
It’s a virgin industry for generating revenue for the national economy though there is lack a technical capacity by Ugandans to regulate, certification and auditing lotteries, betting and Kassino companies.
He adds that government is to establish a management team and centralized monitoring to track the tax.
However the Woman MP for Agago distrct, Franca Akello and Mayuge district Woman MP, Julie Mukoda Zabwe said that the lottery, casino and betting license fee should be put at high price so as the minimum stake is hiked to make it hard for youth to afford the betting stake.
