Members of Parliament have demanded that government restructures the National Metrological Department (NMD) as a way of strengthening its ability in ensuring the delivery of accurate weather forecasts which affects food production among farmers.
The MPs say that the NMD should share the blame for the farmers planting seeds in wrong seasons.
MP’s remarks followed the environmental weather forecasts which mislead farmers last season ending up planting seeds that were destroyed by the prolonged dry spell.
Luuka North County MP, John Bagoole says blame should also go out to government that he says gives out planting materials to farmers at a wrong time basing on inaccurate weather forecasts by the national metrological department.
Ntende says without the introduction of irrigation, there is going to be less food produced by farmers a situation he says push up prices for food items.
The Central Region youth MP, Sarah Babirye Kityo called upon the youth to collect the seeds from her office and start cultivating land to benefit from this season.
