Opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has released the official program for the return of former presidential candidate, Dr. Kiiza Besigye who has been abroad for several weeks.
Addressing journalists at the party headquarters in Najjanakumbi, the former leader of opposition Wafula Oguttu says Besigye is expected to jet into the country on Thursday at 8.30am aboard a Kenya Airways flight.
However, by press time yesterday, there were no signs of the veteran politician arriving in the country.
He says several party officials and supporters will be at Entebbe International Airport to receive him.
Oguttu says Besigye has met and addressed different fora while in the UK and US, on the issues that have transpired in country over past several months and so deserves a hero’s welcome.
According to the program released this morning, Besigye will move from Entebbe to the party headquarters in Najanankumbi before proceeding to his home in Kasagati.
Oguttu adds that they wrote to the police on the September 23rd seeking m permission and also ensure smooth traffic flow but no response has been received.
However, the police spokesperson Andrew Felix Kawesi has advised the FDC to align its program with the provisions of the Public Order Management Act.
He explains that Entebbe Highway is a busy road and such a huge procession would disrupt traffic flow and inconvenience the public.
He adds that although Besigye has the right to return to his country like any other Ugandan, he should not infringe on other people’s rights in doing so.
