Members of Parliament on the Parliamentary Committee on National Economy on Wednesday grilled the Minister of State for Transport, Aggrey Bagiire, over failure to address road construction back log across the country.
MPs on the Committee Chaired by Nakaseke North MP,Syda Bumba were interfacing with the ministry of works officials over many pending roads requiring government works.
MPs who included; for Dodoth East, Samson Lokeris,Hoima Municipality, Lawrence Bategeka ,Ruhinda North, Thomas Tayebwa and the Amudat district Woman MP, Rose Mary Nauwat complained that many roads were promised by government for construction but are taking long to be worked upon.
Bagiire, later admitted that indeed there has been a delay to work on many roads in the country and but cited inadequate funding to the ministry of works as one of the major reasons that are causing road backlog.
He explained that the ministry of works requires government to a triple its budget so as it clears the existing road backlog in the country.
